Guidelines for Interior
Painting
~Homeowner Preparation List~
• Determine which areas of the project you want to have completed first.
Progressive Painting will follow your schedule. If you want your
kitchen/living areas done first, just let us know. We usually set up to work
in two to three areas each day.
• Determine which pictures, if any, will be going back up in the same
location. If you will be removing, and then replacing pictures in the exact
same location, leave the nail or screw in the wall. If you are not putting
the pictures back up, remove the nail or screw. This will let us know which
holes need to be filled, which will be done during our preparation phase.
• If the insides of closets are to be painted, please be prepared to remove
and relocate the contents of the closets on a bed or other location on while
the area is being painted.
• Progressive Painting will move your large furniture items. Please remove
any small items such as trinkets, lamps, and/or other breakables prior to
our arrival.
• Unplug and/or remove any electronic equipment (stereos, computers,
televisions, etc) from the areas to be painted. We can move these items for
you upon request, but you will be responsible for hooking electronics back
up.
• Decide if you want registers and electrical faceplates painted. Let us
know how you want these items handled. Some customers want them painted,
while others do not. We can also replace wall plates after painting if
requested. A nominal fee for this service will apply.
• Please expect some dust during and in the days that follow your project.
We will use drop clothes and plastic during the project to protect your
belongings, however drywall dust from sanding will be created in the
preparation process. Drywall dust is extremely fine, and will often time
settle several days after it was created and after the plastic has been
removed.
Guidelines for Exterior Painting
~Homeowner Preparation List~
• Prior to our arrival, please make sure your exterior water is turned on
and that hose bibs are accessible. We will need access to water for power
washing (if applicable) and to clean out brushes, rollers, etc. If there is
a specific area that you would like us to clean our equipment, please let us
know either prior to or the day we begin your project.
• It is not necessary for anyone to be home while the project is ongoing,
however, we will need to make access arrangements for painting doors and
windows (if applicable). Windows and doors will also need to be left open to
allow time to dry.
• Please remove any personal items from the areas that are receiving paint.
This may include small items such as hanging plants, baskets, lawn or
flowerbed statues or ornaments. We will move patio furniture or other large
items and protect them appropriately.
• Please determine if there is a particular area that you would like us to
store our ladders and/or equipment at the end of our workday.
• Finally, please take an opportunity to check your shrubs and/or bushes
to see if they are in need of trimming. It is likely that we will need to
access areas with our ladders where shrubs and bushes are.
• Please provide us with your paint chips OR provide us with the color name,
manufacturer, and the number code within 5 days of your tentative start
date. This applies unless color scheme is to be matched to existing color.
We are happy to provide you with color samples from Sherwin Williams. We can
