1. Does Progressive Painting use sub-contractors?
A: Absolutely not. Progressive Painting has full-time painters with a combined experience of over 50 years. Progressive Painting prides their company on communication with the homeowner every step of the project, from estimate to completion. Sub-contractors tend to become the middlemen and therefore create a break up in communication from the company to the homeowner.

2. Does Progressive Painting guarantee its services?
A: Yes, we guarantee all work preformed. Customer satisfaction is a must! All interior and exterior work on residential re-paints is guaranteed against peeling and/or blistering for one year. The utmost care is taken in preparing the surfaces for all painting projects. Preparation is the key to a long lasting finish.

3. Does Progressive Painting power wash exteriors prior to painting?
A: Yes, exterior surfaces are power washed two to three days prior to painting. Power washing the surfaces to be painted removes dirt, contaminants and oxidation that are present. Contaminants that are currently present would prevent the new paint film from adhering properly. All power washing solutions used are biodegradable and environmentally safe.

4. What type of paint products does Progressive Painting use?
A: Progressive Painting uses all top of line Sherwin Williams paint products. Sherwin Williams offers a wide range of products and colors and has excellent paint matching services. Progressive Painting stands behind Sherwin Williams paint products and guarantees it’s quality. If homeowner chooses to use a product other than Sherwin Williams, coverage cannot be guaranteed. However, Progressive Painting will apply any type of paint that is requested/preferred by the homeowner.

5. Will Progressive Painting leave touch up paint?
A: Yes, touch up paint is left, marked, and sealed for all paints used in the home. Paint has an average shelf life span of 4 years.

6. What are Progressive Painting's hours of operation?
A: Progressive Painting doesn’t have structured hours of operation. They cater to the schedule of their customers, including performing work on the weekends and evenings, if necessary.

7. My house was painted two years ago and the paint is peeling and flaking. What causes this?
A: Peeling is usually caused by poor surface preparation, therefore causing a loss of adhesion. For a detailed description of more common paint problems and their causes click the link below: http://www.sherwin.com/Contractors/res-com/troubleshooting/peeling.asp

8. What is the difference between oil paint and latex paint?
A: Latex paint is water based. While latex is not as durable as oil, many paint manufacturers have begun developing more durable latex paint. These newly developed latex paints are nearly as durable as oil. Latex dries much faster than oil and cleans up with water. It can stand up to severe wear and tear. Latex paint does not emit harmful and irritating fumes, as oil does. Also, latex paints do not yellow. Oil based paints because of the nature of their composition begin yellowing almost the moment they are applied. This is particularly true with white and off-white colors. This gradual discoloration makes touch-up increasingly difficult as time passes. Latex paints are less prone to mildew growth. The slow drying time of oil paint allows ample time for mold spores to attach to the surface. Latex paints retain greater flexibility than oil. Oil based paints continue to harden over time. With temperature changes, paint films will expand and contract. This causes oil paint to develop cracks. The flexibility with latex allows it to expand and contract. Latex is less likely to develop cracks that permit moisture penetration. With oil paint the inflexibility develops cracks that provide moisture the opportunity to enter the substrate. The result is rotting wood and/or peeling paint.

9. My home is currently painted with an oil-based paint; can latex paint be used over an oil-based finish?
A: Yes, however, there is certain preparation that must take place in order to allow the latex to bond to the oil. There are two steps that can be taken to ensure this. Either sanding the surface to a dull finish, or applying a coat of primer. Either of the processes will allow a surface for the paint to bond to.

10. What types of finishes are there? What can I expect the result to be with the different finishes available?
A: eggshell, semi-gloss, high gloss, satin, flat are the common finishes that are available.

eggshell: This finish provides a low sheen and is ideal in any areas that you wish to reflect light.
semi-gloss: This finish is easy to clean and has a slight sheen. Semi-gloss finish is ideal in the following areas:
Kitchens, Bathrooms, Utility Areas, Closet Doors, and Trim.
high gloss: This finish provides an extremely smooth, rich, hard shiny finish. A gloss finish is ideal in the following areas:
Wood Trim, Doors, Cabinets, and Furniture.
satin: This finish is easier to clean than flat finishes. It provides a slight shine when applied to trim, walls and/or ceilings. The following areas are ideal for a satin finish:
Halls, Woodwork, Children’s Bedrooms, and Family rooms.
flat: This finish works well in areas that have surface blemishes. A flat finish will soften a room. The following areas are ideal for a flat finish: Adult bedrooms, Dining Room, Formal Living Rooms, and Ceilings
11. Can aluminum & vinyl siding be painted?
A: Yes, both aluminum and vinyl siding can be painted. There are certain precautions and facts to consider when deciding to paint either of these surfaces. Both of these surfaces must be thoroughly washed prior to any painting. All mildew must be removed from the surfaces prior to any paint application. As a general rule with vinyl siding, it cannot be painted with a color that is darker than the siding’s color. A darker color will cause the siding to absorb more heat from sunlight and therefore cause the siding to warp. If aluminum siding is dented, consider using flat or low gloss paint. Lower gloss and flat paint have a tendency to reduce the visibility of any areas where dents are present. Higher gloss paint reflects more light and has a tendency to emphasize any siding damage.
